Water gushing into the spout, Plug in. Switch on. Wait. Disjointed rumble from the kettle, turning into continuous reassuring background hum. Waiting…and reflecting. There is a world beyond the kettle. In the village beyond, children learn; in London, London Bridge heaves with traffic; in Tasmania an old man dies alone, whilst in Romania another unwanted baby is born; in the alps there is an avalanche warning, and a storm threatens Stockholm; In China a new city is built; in Russia a hungry stray dog annoys a woman as she enters her apartment, and a child cries in Malaysia.
The kettle hum affects a crescendo which is ended abruptly.
The world diminishes again to the sound of metal against ceramic…in a gamekeepers lodge… by a Loch… in Scotland…

Great thoughts! Maybe you could have come up with a lot more of these zillions of little details we aren’t and never could be aware of. It’s amazing how limited our perception is, but on the other side, it protects us.
Thanks for using my picture, it’s an honour!
Thank you :] You are right though. If we had total insight, we would not fare well. We do need a modicum of protection.
As for more examples…the piece was only supposed to be an exercise of 100 words.
Thanks for your comments. They are much appreciated
Susie.
